Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s far-right government has launched a controversial campaign to deliver sindoor (the traditional vermilion powder worn by married Hindu women) to women across the country at their homes. The campaign is set to begin on June 9.

This bizarre move has triggered widespread backlash in India, with many accusing Modi of using women and patriarchal symbolism to deflect attention from his failed “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan.

In a viral video, two India women who were asked about Modi's sindoor campaing, became angry and lashed outt at him for using them as a tool for his politics.

improve: "Our husbands will protect our sindoor, who ar you? I am ashamed that the prime minister of my country is talkins such cheap things," a woman said.

"Another woman said that the sindoor "is the right of thier husband" what right do you have to sindoor? you don't have an idea what we will do with you if you carry out any such action,' another woman warned.

Critics argued that Modi has turned to hatemongering and divisive rhetoric following severe military setbacks at the hands of the Pakistan Air Force. On May 10, Pakistan carried out retaliatory strikes targeting Indian military installations, causing massive damage.

Under Modi's leadership, India has seen a sharp rise in communal tensions. BJP leaders and other pro-Hindutva figures have openly spread hate against Muslims, Kashmiris, and Pakistanis.

The situation escalated after India blamed Pakistan for a militant attack in the tourist hotspot of Pahalgam, located in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Pakistan categorically denied the allegations and called for an impartial international investigation. However, India dismissed the call and launched unprovoked attacks on May 8 and 10, targeting civilian and military sites inside Pakistan.

Pakistan’s armed forces, on high alert, effectively repelled the aggression and inflicted heavy military losses on India.

According to defense sources, six Indian fighter jets, including four Rafales, were shot down.

Additionally, India's S-400 air defense system, BrahMos missile facility, and several military bases also suffered damage.

In the aftermath of this defeat, Modi has been using absurd and xenophobic theatrics to mislead voters ahead of the elections. His sindoor campaign is seen by many as part of this propaganda.

The controversy intensified when a member of  Modi's party hinted at an “Operation Sindoor” in West Bengal, taking a dig at his political rival, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In a scathing response, Banerjee lashed out at Modi, saying,

“Every woman has respect, they take ‘Sindoor’ from their husbands, you (Narendra Modi) are not the husband of everybody, Why are you not giving Sindoor to your Mrs first?”
