Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is reportedly preparing to make a rare and historic visit to Israel tomorrow, according to multiple Israeli media outlets.

In connection with the visit, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has requested the postponement of his scheduled court appearance on Wednesday, citing an “important and urgent diplomatic engagement,” the reports said.

In an address to the United Nations General Assembly about two weeks ago, Subianto, who leads the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, called for ensuring Israel’s security, a statement that drew international attention.

Earlier in May, Subianto said Indonesia would be willing to recognise Israel if it, in turn, recognised an independent Palestinian state—a stance that signaled a potential shift in Jakarta’s long-standing foreign policy, which traditionally backs Palestinian statehood and maintains no formal ties with Israel.

Reports last year indicated that Indonesia had reached an understanding to establish diplomatic relations with Israel as part of an arrangement to secure membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

If confirmed, Subianto’s visit would mark a major diplomatic development in Southeast Asia’s relations with Israel and could reshape Jakarta’s role in broader Middle East diplomacy.
