Tehran: Iran has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) announcing live-fire military exercises in airspace near the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital maritime chokepoint in the Gulf.

The move comes amid heightened regional tensions, following the arrival of US military assets in the Middle East.

According to the Iranian notice, the drills will be conducted from 27 to 29 January within a five-nautical-mile radius, covering airspace from ground level up to 25,000 feet.

The designated airspace has been declared hazardous, with flight operations subject to restrictions during this period.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, through which millions of barrels of oil pass daily.

Any disruption to traffic in the area could trigger volatility in global energy markets and further escalate geopolitical tensions.

The airspace warning coincides with increased US military activity in the region, aimed at demonstrating rapid deployment and support capabilities.

US officials have stated that all options remain on the table regarding Iran, including military action.

Iranian authorities have warned that any attack would be met with an immediate and comprehensive response.

Civilian and military flights have been advised to exercise caution and strictly adhere to the issued airspace instructions.
