Iran has executed a man accused of spying for Israel.

According to international media reports, Iran’s judiciary news agency Mizan reported on Wednesday that an individual accused of espionage for Israel has been executed.

The official statement said that the country’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence earlier issued by a lower court, and as a result, Pedram Madani was executed.

According to the report, Madani had traveled to Israel and met with Mossad officers in order to provide secret information about locations in Iran where "infrastructure" equipment was installed.

While the report did not elaborate on the nature of the infrastructure, it stated that Madani received foreign currency and cryptocurrency in return for the information.

It also mentioned that Madani had met Mossad officers at the Israeli embassy in Belgium. Israel's security agency has not issued any comment on the matter.

Iran’s state news agency IRNA, citing the judiciary's media center, reported that Madani was arrested in 2020.

He was charged with collaborating with Mossad, recruiting spies, gathering classified information, and transmitting it to a handler through a secure communication system.

Following a trial, Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence. The execution of Madani is being seen as another episode in the ongoing covert war between Iran and Israel.

The two countries have long accused each other of espionage, cyber attacks, and sabotage operations.
