Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei warned Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah of Israeli plot to kill him, Reuters report said quoting sources.
Reuters, citing three Iranian sources, reported that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had warned Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah to leave Lebanon days before his death in an Israeli air raid.
The sources revealed that Khamenei is now deeply concerned about Israeli infiltration at the highest levels of Iran's government.
According to one senior Iranian official, shortly after Hezbollah's communication devices were bombed on September 17, Khamenei sent an urgent message through an emissary, advising Nasrallah to leave Lebanon for Iran.
The warning was based on intelligence that Israel had agents within Hezbollah and was planning to assassinate its leader.
The official also disclosed that the emissary was Abbas Nilforoushan, a high-ranking commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Nilforoushan was with Nasrallah in his hideout when the Israeli strike occurred, resulting in both their deaths.
Following Nasrallah’s assassination, Khamenei, who has been in a heavily secured location within Iran since Saturday, reportedly ordered the firing of nearly 200 rockets at Israel on Tuesday.
The Revolutionary Guards confirmed in a statement that the attack was in retaliation for the killings of Nasrallah and Nilforoushan.
