US President Joe Biden announced that Israel has proposed a three-phase ceasefire plan for Hamas, which includes halting attacks, returning hostages, and initiating a reconstruction plan for Gaza.
This marks the second time a ceasefire deal has emerged; previously, Hamas had agreed to a ceasefire, but Israel rejected it, stating that the deal did not meet its core demands.
During a news conference at the White House, Biden urged Hamas not to miss this opportunity, stating, "Everyone who wants peace now must raise their voices and work to make it real. It's time for this war to end."
"Israel has made their proposal. Hamas says it wants a ceasefire. This deal is an opportunity to prove whether they really mean it," he added.
However, the US President forgot that the first deal was breached by its ally Israel.
The office of Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasised that their primary goals are "the return of all our abductees and the elimination of Hamas' military and governmental capabilities."
A statement from the office asserted that the three-stage proposal "allows Israel to maintain these principles."
Hamas responded positively to Biden's speech, indicating that it will engage "constructively with any proposal based on a permanent ceasefire, complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction, the return of the displaced to all their places of residence, and the completion of a serious prisoner exchange deal if the occupation declares its explicit commitment to that."
Despite substantial evidence, Biden reiterated that Israel's offensive in Gaza does not constitute genocide.
"We reject that, and we’ll always stand with Israel against threats to its security," he stated.
