Karachi police, in collaboration with the Women and Child Protection Cell, thwarted an attempted child marriage in Hijrat Colony, arresting the minor girl’s parents and several others involved in the case.
According to a statement by the District South Police, authorities received a tip-off about the planned marriage of a 13-year-old girl. Acting swiftly, the Women and Child Protection Cell contacted SSP South Mahzoor Ali, who directed the Civil Lines Police to intervene.
A joint operation was promptly carried out, during which officers confirmed that preparations were underway for the illegal marriage of the minor. The family was asked to provide official documents, which verified the girl’s age as only 13.
Based on the girl’s statement and supporting evidence, the police registered FIR No 97/2025 under Sections 3 and 5 of the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, along with Section 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The girl’s parents and other participants in the attempted marriage were taken into custody.
SSP South emphasised that the police remain committed to protecting children and will continue to take decisive action against child marriages and other unlawful cultural practices.
