A Malaysian citizen, Mohd Zahir Ismail, passed away while performing Tawaf, the circumambulation of the Kaaba, at the Grand Mosque in Makka, The Star reported on Monday.

According to the publication, the couple arrived in Makkah on Wednesday (May 29) morning to perform the annual sacred pilgrimage.

The incident happened when the 58-year-old pilgrim was performing Tawaf for the first Umrah with his wife and fellow pilgrims from Maktab 78 on the arrival day when he collapsed in the Mataf area.

The Saudi authorities called the Red Crescent team for medical assistance, however, Zahir, died due to a heart attack in the Holy city.

The local publication, quoting the deceased's wife, reported that the couple had applied for Hajj late and were not expecting to be accepted, but they were able to perform the pilgrimage due to Allah's will.

She believed that her husband's death was predestined to occur in Haram Sharif. 

As per his wife, Zahir had no known medical conditions and did not complain of any health issues before his passing. His death occurred just 12 hours after arriving in Makkah.
