Maldives bans entry of Israeli citizens to show solidarity with Palestinians

In a move aimed at showing solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Maldives has announced a ban on the entry of Israeli citizens into the country, according to President Mohamed Muizzu's spokesperson.
In a statement, the spokesman said "President Mohamed Muizzu has resolved to impose a ban on Israeli passports.
However, no official date regarding the enactment of the law was provided by the spox in the statement.
The country's President's office confirmed that the cabinet has approved the decision.
The President will also appoint a special envoy for humanitarian efforts related to the Palestinian territories.
Reacting to the development, Israel’s foreign ministry recommended its citizens avoid travelling to the Maldives.
“For Israeli citizens already in the country, it is recommended to consider leaving, because if they find themselves in distress for any reason, it will be difficult for us to assist,” the Israeli ministry said in a statement.
Last year, the Maldives welcomed 11,000 Israeli tourists, which was 0.6% of the total tourist arrivals.
