The President will also appoint a special envoy for humanitarian efforts related to the Palestinian territories.

Reacting to the development, Israel’s foreign ministry recommended its citizens avoid travelling to the Maldives.

“For Israeli citizens already in the country, it is recommended to consider leaving, because if they find themselves in distress for any reason, it will be difficult for us to assist,” the Israeli ministry said in a statement.

Last year, the Maldives welcomed 11,000 Israeli tourists, which was 0.6% of the total tourist arrivals.
