A new investigative report has emerged detailing the horrific treatment of Palestinian detainees imprisoned at the Sde Teiman military base by Israeli forces without charges.
The New York Times published a three-month-long investigation into Israel’s detention centre, revealing that Palestinian men are being subjected to severe forms of sexual abuse.
The military base in southern Israel houses approximately 400 detainees captured during Israel's military offensive in the Gaza Strip since October 7.
The report includes interviews with former detainees, Israeli officials, and doctors, painting a graphic picture of the mental and physical torture occurring inside the makeshift prison.
Prisoners reported being stripped naked during interrogations by the occupation army.
One account from 39-year-old senior nurse Muhammad Al-Hamlawi mentioned that a female officer ordered soldiers to sexually abuse him with metal rods.
Similar accounts were shared in a leaked draft of the UNRWA report by Palestinian detainees illegally imprisoned by Israel, where prisoners can be held for up to 75 days without a court order and 90 days without legal representation.
Israel has denied reports of abusive treatment of Palestinian prisoners, stating that such actions are strictly prohibited. However, past reports have also highlighted the severe human rights violations inside the military base.
The Israeli Supreme Court is hearing arguments on a petition to close the site and the IDF has already started transporting prisoners to the occupied West Bank.
