A 20-year-old Pakistani man was arrested by Indian border security forces after accidentally crossing the border at night while attempting to return to his village following the rejection of his marriage proposal by his girlfriend's family.
Jagsi Koli, a resident of Akli Kharodi village in Tharparkar district, crossed the Indian border between the nights of August 24 and 25.
Koli was arrested in Jhapda village, India, located 15 kilometres from the Pakistan border. He was asking people about buses to Tharparkar, which aroused suspicion among locals.
Indian officials told the media that the boy had inadvertently entered neighbouring territory during the night.
According to BSF officials, Koli had traveled to his girlfriend's village in Pakistan, located approximately 8 kilometres from the Indian border.
He intended to persuade the 17-year-old girl to elope with him, but she declined. Devastated by her rejection, Jagsi seized her scarf and threatened to take his own life.
He tied a noose around his neck and attempted to take his own life by hanging from a tree branch. However, the branch broke and he survived.
Jagsi's girlfriend's family assaulted him, forcing him to flee for his safety. He then decided to return to his family in Tharparkar village, located approximately 35 kilometres from the Indian border.
He entered Indian territory by breaching the barbed wire fence and traveled approximately 15 kilometres into Indian territory while wandering aimlessly at night, unaware of his surroundings.
BSF confirmed Jagsi's innocence, asserting that this was his first time crossing the border.
Indian authorities stated that Jagsi would be handed over to Pakistan, where he would be investigated by relevant agencies and security forces.
