Saad Edhi, son of prominent philanthropist Faisal Edhi, joined more than 500 volunteers from several countries as the Global Sumud Flotilla departed from Marmaris, Turkiye, for Gaza on Friday, according to reports.
The humanitarian mission, organised under the Global Sumud Flotilla initiative, is expected to take between six and seven days to reach its destination.
The flotilla aims to deliver humanitarian assistance to people affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza. The mission includes volunteers and aid workers from different parts of the world.
According to organisers, the Edhi Foundation contributed relief supplies for the mission. Over the past several days, Saad Edhi supervised the purchase of rations, dry food items, medicines, baby formula milk and other essential supplies from Marmaris for delivery to Gaza residents.
The departure of the flotilla comes amid continued international calls for increased humanitarian access to Gaza.
