Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy has launched naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz under the title “Smart Control of the Strait of Hormuz”.
According to Iranian news agencies, the joint military drills are being conducted in the strategically sensitive waterway.
Reports say the exercises are being overseen by IRGC commander Mohammad Pakpour. Officials stated that the drills aim to assess the operational readiness of naval units and evaluate their ability to respond swiftly and effectively to potential security and military threats.
Iranian media reported that the exercises also include a practical demonstration of defensive strategies, taking into account Iran’s geographical and strategic significance in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
Analysts noted that the drills have begun at a time when indications have emerged from US President Donald Trump regarding the possible deployment of another aircraft carrier to the Middle East, raising concerns over escalating tensions in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is regarded as one of the world’s most critical routes for global oil shipments, and any military activity in the area is closely monitored by international markets.
