Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has been dropped from the Gaza Peace Council after several Islamic countries objected to his participation.
According to a report from a British newspaper, Arab and Muslim nations pushed back against Blair’s inclusion in U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan, which ultimately led to his removal from the proposed council.
However, the report also mentioned that Blair might still play a role in Gaza at a later stage.
Back in September, President Trump unveiled a peace initiative for Gaza, in which he suggested Tony Blair as one of the council members.
It’s worth remembering that during his time as UK Prime Minister, Blair was a strong supporter of the 2003 Iraq invasion.
He backed the U.S.-led military operation and sent British troops to participate in the war — an action based on claims that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, which were later proven false.
