U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that several Middle Eastern countries have offered to deploy troops to Gaza to fight Hamas, renewing his threats against the Palestinian group amid a fragile ceasefire in the territory.
“Numerous of our NOW GREAT ALLIES in the Middle East, and areas surrounding the Middle East, have explicitly and strongly, with great enthusiasm, informed me that they would welcome the opportunity, at my request, to go into GAZA with a heavy force and ‘straighten out Hamas’ if Hamas continues to act badly, in violation of their agreement with us,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday.
Speaking earlier at the White House alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Trump said: “We have a deal with Hamas that they will behave well, they will be decent, they will be kind. And if they don’t, we will go in and eliminate them — if necessary, they will be eliminated, and they know that.”
The comments came as two senior U.S. envoys headed to Israel for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following renewed violence that threatened the recently brokered ceasefire.
Trump asserted that U.S. troops would not participate in any direct military action against Hamas, but claimed that “dozens of countries” were ready to contribute to an international stabilization force for Gaza if the situation deteriorates.
He added that Israel “could enter Gaza quickly if instructed,” but said Washington was “giving the ceasefire a chance” in the hope that tensions would ease.
The president also asserted that Hamas’s strength has weakened, crediting the decline to reduced regional support — particularly from Iran — following recent U.S. and Israeli actions.
