OSLO – According to Norway’s business daily Dagens Næringsliv, former U.S. President Donald Trump unexpectedly phoned Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg last month, discussing not only trade tariffs but also his wish to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

The report states that Stoltenberg was walking along a street in Oslo when he received the call. U.S.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer also participated in the conversation.

Trump has previously been nominated for the Nobel Prize by several countries, including Pakistan, Cambodia, and Israel, for his role in brokering peace agreements or ceasefires.

He has often publicly claimed to be deserving of the honor, which has been awarded to four former U.S. presidents.

Stoltenberg said the primary purpose of the call was to discuss tariffs and economic cooperation but declined to share further details.

Trump administration likely to lay off 300,000 employees

Both the White House and Norway’s Nobel Committee have refrained from commenting on the matter.

This is not the first time Trump has mentioned the Nobel Prize to Stoltenberg, who formerly served as NATO Secretary-General.

On July 31, the White House announced a 15% tariff on Norwegian imports, and both sides remain engaged in negotiations over the trade dispute.
