US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday targeting non-citizen students in the US who sympathise with Palestinian resistance group Hamas or participated in protests against Israel's genocide in Gaza.
Before taking office, Trump had repeatedly condemned pro-Palestinian demonstrations, labeling them anti-Semitic and anti-Jewish expressions.
According to the fact sheet released with the order, the Justice Department will take “immediate action” using all federal resources to prosecute “terroristic threats, arson, vandalism, and violence against American Jews.”
"To all the resident aliens who joined in the pro-jihadist protests, we put you on notice: come 2025, we will find you, and we will deport you," Trump was quoted as saying.

He further stated, "I will also quickly cancel the student visas of all Hamas sympathisers on college campuses, which have been infested with radicalism like never before."
Trump's harsh policies targeting migrants, transgender individuals, and pro-Palestinian activists have faced strong backlash, with various civil rights organisations actively challenging his executive orders in court.
It is pertinet to note that thousands of students across American universities organised mass protests and encampments on their campuses, demanding their institutions cancel partnerships with pro-Israel firms.

These protests were met with a strict crackdown by law enforcement, with demonstrators arrested and physically assaulted for expressing solidarity with Palestinians.
In response to the mounting pressure, several universities paused or cancelled ties with companies supporting Israel.
