US President Donald Trump switched presidential aircraft during his journey home from the NATO summit in Türkiye, flying an older Air Force One to Britain before boarding a newly refurbished Boeing 747 for the flight to Washington.
Trump travelled from Ankara to RAF Mildenhall in Britain aboard one of the older aircraft used as Air Force One, while the newly renovated jet — donated by Qatar and recently refitted — flew separately to the same base.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he chose to fly the older aircraft "for old time's sake", adding that the new plane had stopped at the British air base so US service members stationed there could tour it.
Video footage later showed Trump boarding the newly refurbished aircraft at RAF Mildenhall for the final leg of his journey to the United States.
The aircraft, a Boeing 747 donated by Qatar and upgraded by defence contractor L3Harris Technologies, made its first international trip during the NATO summit in Türkiye.
