US President Donald Trump has threatened to launch another attack on Venezuela if it fails to adopt what he described as the “right approach”.

Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, President Trump said the United States should have full access to Venezuela’s oil and other natural resources, warning that failure to comply would result in a second US strike.

The US president also issued threats against Venezuela’s interim leadership, including Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, and neighbouring countries, stating that if Rodríguez “does not act correctly”, she would pay a heavier price than former president Nicolás Maduro.

Using strong language about Cuba, President Trump claimed the Cuban government was close to collapse, suggesting that military intervention might not be necessary as Cuba had previously relied on income from Venezuela, which it no longer receives.

He also criticised Colombia, alleging that the country was being run by what he called a “sick individual” interested in producing cocaine and selling it to the United States, adding that such actions would not continue for long.

When asked whether he was referring to a possible US military operation against Colombia, President Trump responded that he was pleased to hear such a suggestion regarding the current Colombian government.

During the same interaction, President Trump also warned Mexico, saying that if Mexico failed to fix its system, the United States would be forced to take action.
