A Turkish Airlines pilot passed away after collapsing in the cockpit during a flight from Seattle to Istanbul, forcing an emergency landing in New York.
The Airbus A350 aircraft, operating as TK204, diverted to New York after the pilot fainted, and despite immediate medical assistance, he succumbed to his condition.
According to Turkish Airlines, the pilot, who had been with the airline since 2007, had recently undergone a routine medical examination with no health concerns reported.
"The pilot of our Airbus A350 collapsed during the flight," said Yahya Ustun, Turkish Airlines spokesman. "After an unsuccessful attempt to administer first aid, the flight crew decided to make an emergency landing, but he died before reaching the ground."
The airline expressed deepest condolences to the pilot's family and colleagues.
"As the Turkish Airlines family, we wish God's mercy on our captain and patience to all his colleagues and loved ones, especially his grieving family," Ustun added.
