Turkish authorities recently arrested a Mossad agent from Kosovo, according to security sources.
The Turkish National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) apprehended Liridin Rexhepi, a Kosovan citizen, accusing him of being a “financier for Israeli intelligence,” as reported by the Times of Israel. Rexhepi was identified as the head of Mossad’s financial network in Turkiye.
MIT had been monitoring Rexhepi's activities, including suspicious transactions linked to his accounts, since he entered Turkiye on August 25.
On August 30, he was detained by MIT in collaboration with the Istanbul Police. During interrogation, Rexhepi reportedly confessed to making financial transfers through Western Union to Mossad operatives operating within Turkiye.
In addition, MIT alleges that Rexhepi played a key role in managing Mossad’s financial network in Turkiye, facilitating payments to informants involved in various covert activities.
These activities allegedly included filming with drones, conducting psychological operations against Palestinian politicians, and gathering intelligence on the situation in Syria.
MIT further stated, "As a result of tracking the money, it was determined that the operatives in Turkiye transferred funds originating from Kosovo to their subordinates in Syria via Western Union."
The investigation also revealed that Mossad operatives in Turkiye were utilizing cryptocurrency to compensate their resources in Syria.
This arrest is part of a broader pattern in which Turkish security forces have increasingly detained individuals suspected of being Israeli informants or part of operational networks. In recent years, as relations between Turkiye and Israel have deteriorated—particularly after Israel’s 2023 invasion of Gaza—Ankara has intensified its efforts to monitor and counteract Israeli intelligence activities within its borders.
