UK deploys troops to Israel at US request to assist in Gaza Peace Plan

At the request of the United States, British troops have been deployed to Israel to assist in overseeing the Gaza peace initiative, according to official reports.

A senior British Army commander and a limited number of personnel have been sent to Israel, where they will support the peace project being supervised under US leadership.

Confirming the deployment while addressing business leaders in London, UK Defence Secretary John Healey said that British forces would contribute their specialized expertise and operational experience to help establish lasting peace in the region.

He added that a senior British officer has been appointed as Deputy Commander to the US-led mission and will head a Civil-Military Coordination Centre expected to include forces from Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates.

This development comes just a week after newly appointed Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper stated that the UK had no plans to send troops to Israel — indicating a possible shift in British foreign policy following the recent decision.
