United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has extended an offer of mediation between Pakistan and India, urging both nuclear-armed neighbors to prioritize peace and dialogue over confrontation.
In a strong statement, Guterres emphasized that “war is never the solution to any problem” and warned that any military misstep could spiral out of control. “This is a time for restraint and patience. I call on both countries to take one step back and engage in constructive dialogue,” he said.
The Secretary-General reiterated that the United Nations stands ready to provide its platform for peaceful negotiations.

“Let it be clear — there is no military solution to the current tensions. Any act of war could quickly escalate beyond control,” he stated.
Referring to the recent incident in Pahalgam, Guterres condemned the attack, calling the targeting of innocent civilians “unacceptable.”
He concluded his remarks with a firm appeal: “My message to both countries is simple — do not make a mistake. Step back, engage in talks, and choose diplomacy over destruction.”
