The 2024 US presidential election is set to be decided in seven key swing states—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—which together hold 93 electoral votes.
Both Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican contender Donald Trump are focusing their efforts on securing these critical battlegrounds to reach the 270 electoral votes needed for victory.
With narrow margins and fluctuating voter support, these states have become the focal point of intense campaigning. On the eve of the election, both candidates concentrated heavily on Pennsylvania, the largest swing state with 19 electoral votes.
For Harris, winning Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin—once considered the "Blue Wall" of Democratic strongholds—is crucial.
These states, which Trump flipped in 2016, are pivotal for Harris's path to victory. Nonpartisan analysts estimate she needs at least 45 additional electoral votes beyond her "safe" states, with a heavy reliance on these three states to secure her position.
Trump's strategy to reclaim the presidency involves regaining ground in the same states he won in 2016, particularly Pennsylvania and Michigan, as well as making gains in traditionally Democratic-leaning states like North Carolina.
