Super Typhoon Yagi made landfall in the northern provinces of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, Vietnam, bringing with it wind speeds exceeding 149 kilometers (92 miles) per hour.

The typhoon has caused significant damage, uprooting thousands of trees and sweeping away ships.

The typhoon hit the northern the northern parts of Vietnam on Saturday.

Before hitting Vietnam, Yagi had already wreaked havoc in southern China’s Hainan island, resulting in at least two fatalities and injuring 92 others.

The storm brought heavy rain and strong winds, prompting the evacuation of approximately 460,000 residents from Hainan, a popular tourist destination.

The island’s main airport was temporarily closed due to the severe weather.

Earlier in the week, Yagi had claimed at least 13 lives in the Philippines while still classified as a tropical storm.

Following its path through southern China, the storm is now expected to impact northern and north-central Vietnam, including the UNESCO-listed Halong Bay area.
