According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Israel has shared new intelligence with the United States alleging that Iran is involved in a plot to assassinate President Donald Trump.
The said development could further escalate already heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The report cites Iran's long-standing pledge to avenge the January 3, 2020, US drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force.
Speaking to reporters, Trump claimed Iran views him as a target, saying, "They want to take out the US leader—me," and adding that he appears on "every single one of their lists."
The Israeli Embassy in Washington declined to comment on the reported intelligence, while Iran's Mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The report comes amid a sharp escalation in hostilities between the United States and Iran. In recent days, both sides have exchanged military strikes, raising concerns over regional security and global energy supplies.
Separately, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone and agreed to maintain close coordination as tensions in the region continue to intensify.
