The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Friday increased the price of electricity by Rs10 for K-Electric customers in Karachi.
The price hike is aimed at recovering the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for nine months.
According to the notification, K-Electric consumers will pay an additional amount of Rs10 in four months, from June to September.
The breakdown of the additional charges is as follows:
- Rs2.67 per unit in June
- Rs3.10 per unit in July
- Rs3.22 per unit in August
- Rs0.99 per unit in September
The notification clarified that the increase will not be applicable to Lifeline customers of the utility company.
The decision came after K-Electric applied for a price hike in FCA from July 2023 to March 2024.
Following the raise, the utility company's base tariff has been increased to Rs44.69 from the previous Rs34 per unit.
