Pakistan govt collected record Rs2.7 trillion in petroleum levy within two years

The federal government has collected a record more than Rs2.7 trillion in petroleum levy from citizens over the past two years.
According to official documents, the government recovered Rs2.725 trillion in petroleum levy between April 2024 and March 2026, an amount exceeding the combined value of Pakistan’s two ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan programmes
The documents stated that, based on the current exchange rate, the total value of the two IMF programmes stands at approximately Rs2.34 trillion in Pakistani currency.
During the first nine months of the current fiscal year, from July 2025 to March 2026, the government collected more than Rs1.205 trillion in petroleum levy.
In the previous fiscal year 2024-25, petroleum levy collections stood at Rs1.220 trillion, while an additional Rs299.63 billion was collected during the April-June quarter of 2024, the documents revealed.
