ISLAMABAD: The Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad has implemented a strict policy to revoke the registration of vehicles that have not paid their token tax, effective January 1.

As stated by a spokesperson for the department, this measure will also entail a 200% penalty for those who are in default.

The spokesperson urged individuals with outstanding token tax obligations to clear their dues promptly, highlighting the importance of immediate action for vehicle owners with long-overdue payments.

To assist in this process, the department has established a 20-day grace period for tax payments. “It is crucial for citizens to settle their token taxes on time to prevent any legal repercussions,” the spokesperson remarked.

Islamabad's Deputy Commissioner, Irfan Memon, reaffirmed the administration's dedication to rigorous enforcement. “Following January 1, there will be a crackdown on vehicles with unpaid token tax. We encourage citizens to avoid penalties and inconvenience by ensuring timely payment of their dues,” he stated.

Additionally, it is noteworthy that the government is intensifying efforts against tax evasion.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) aims to meet a tax collection target of Rs980 billion by December, yet only Rs775 billion has been collected in the first four months of the current fiscal year.
