Cardiac diseases are rapidly increasing among young people aged 25-40 due to unhealthy diets and lifestyles, health experts said on Friday.
According to the experts, they report at least 40 to 45 cases regularly, with 15 percent occurring in young individuals.
The information was revealed at a theatre event titled "Achhay Bachchy," held by the National Institute of Cardio-Vascular Disease (NICVD) at Karachi’s Arts Council.
The event aimed to raise awareness among teenagers and young adults about heart disease.
The theatre performance included schoolchildren to educate the audience about how lifestyle choices can increase the risk of cardiac disease.
Dr Tahir Sagheer, Executive Director NICVD, stated that heart diseases are increasing at an alarming rate among the youth in Pakistan due to unhealthy lifestyles and lack of physical activity.
He also mentioned that Pakistan has the highest number of young diabetic patients in the world, with diabetes being diagnosed as early as age 25.
Dr Khawar Kazmi, Head of Preventive Cardiology, emphasised the importance of adopting healthy habits from childhood to prevent cardiac disease.
