Health authorities in Pakistan have confirmed the presence of a rapidly spreading “super flu” virus, which is contributing to a global rise in influenza cases.

Laboratory testing has found that nearly 20 percent of the samples contained the A(H3N2) sub-clade ‘K’ virus.

Medical expert Dr Rana Javed Asghar explained that the term “super flu” refers to an influenza strain that is infecting more people worldwide than expected and has undergone certain genetic changes.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this new variant has led to a significant increase in influenza cases across several European countries.

However, it is not considered more dangerous than previous strains and is spreading earlier than usual.

Dr Asghar advised the public to ensure vaccination for children and the elderly, avoid sending sick individuals to schools or workplaces, and limit physical contact and social gatherings to reduce the spread of the virus.

H3N2 strains are often associated with more intense symptoms and a higher risk of complications like pneumonia, especially in vulnerable groups.
