A new study led by researchers at University College London has revealed that living near airports may increase the risk of heart disease and stroke due to aircraft noise.

The research analyzed detailed cardiac imaging data of 3,635 individuals living near four major airports in England.

The data was compared to that of people from areas with lower levels of aircraft noise.

According to the findings, exposure to high noise levels from airplanes, especially at night, disrupts sleep and increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and stroke for those living near airports.

Cardiologist Gabby Captor commented on the study, stating, "Our analysis is observational, so we cannot definitively claim that high aircraft noise levels directly alter heart structure and function."

However, Captor emphasized that the findings add to growing evidence that aircraft noise can adversely affect heart health and overall well-being.

The study highlights the significant impact of environmental noise pollution on public health, urging further investigation and potential policy changes to mitigate these risks.
