Vlogger Rajab Butt, no stranger to controversy, once again landed in hot waters, this time for claiming that tattoos are halal (permissible in Islam), while also advising that those who consider them haram (forbidden) should simply refrain from getting one.

The YouTuber, who has been residing in Dubai following backlash in Pakistan over allegations of blasphemy, made the remarks in his latest vlog.

Legal action had reportedly been initiated against him by certain groups, prompting his departure from the country.

Rajab first traveled to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah during Ramadan, and later moved to Dubai, where he has been staying for several days without announcing any plans to return to Pakistan.

In his recent vlog, Rajab revealed to fans that he had gotten a large tattoo of his mother's portrait inked on his arm. He also showed a smaller tattoo already present on his wrist.

“I haven’t loved anyone more than my mother,” he stated emotionally in the video.

He went on to explain that he had consulted with Islamic scholars (ulema) before getting the tattoo and claimed that they did not raise any objections, declaring it halal.

However, Rajab acknowledged that others may hold different views. “If someone believes tattoos are haram, then they shouldn't get one,” he said.

The vlog triggered mixed reactions from viewers. One fan commented under the video,

“Kon kon meri tarah agree karta hai ke tattoo nahi banwana chahiye? Hum sab ko pata hai aapko apni maa se bohot pyaar hai, but tattoo kyun? Aur bhi kaam ho sakte thay. Kuch aur kar lete. Lekin koi baat nahi, aap khush hain to hum bhi khush hain [Who all agrees with me that one shouldn't get a tattoo? We all know you love your mother very much, but why a tattoo? There could have been other things. You could have done something else. But no matter, if you are happy, then we are happy too]. Congratulations.”

Others were more critical.

“No matter how much I support Rajab, tattoo is haram in Islam and he should not have done it. He’s not setting a good example for the youth,” one social media user commented.

“You can express love for your mother in many other ways. Why do something that brings you trouble? Besides, it’s clearly haram in Islam,” read another remark.

One viewer even provided an Islamic perspective,

“In Islam, permanent tattoos are generally considered haram due to the belief that they involve altering the body and inflicting unnecessary pain. Temporary tattoos, such as henna, are considered permissible.”
