An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi extended Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s physical remand for six days in a vandalism case registered at the New Town police station.
The development came after PTI supporters made their way to Islamabad against the prolonged imprisonment of Imran Khan.
Judge Amjad Khan granted an extension in Imran Khan’s remand at the request of the prosecutor while hearing the case pertaining to vandalism and arson during the September 28 protest.
In the vandalism case, Imran Khan was re-arrested on November 20, after his bail from Islamabad High Court (IHC) in Toshakhana reference 2.0.
Subsequently, he was produced before the ATC, where he was granted a five-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in connection with the September 28 vandalism case.
The prosecutor had requested a 15-day physical remand, alleging that despite the imposition of Section 144, protesters attacked government property on Imran Khan's call.
Countering the claim, Salman Safdar argued that Imran Khan has been in solitary confinement at Adiala Jail for the past 1.5 years, making it impossible for him to plan such an event.
Salman Safdar described the case as a political vendetta based on assumptions rather than evidence.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected the request for a 15-day remand and granted a five-day instead.
