President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in Pakistan on a two-day official visit on Thursday at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The premier received the Azeri head of the state at Nur Khan Airbase with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Law Minister Attahullah Tarar.
He was given a 21-gun salute on his arrival in Pakistan.
“We are honoured to host President Aliyev,” said PM Shehbaz.
President Asif Ali Zardari also shared his sentiments, stating, “Azerbaijan and Pakistan share a rich history of friendship, and we looking to enhance our collaboration in various sectors.”
“This visit signifies the strong bond between our two nations and our commitment to furthering mutual interests,” he added.
In his visit from 11 to 12 July, President Aliyev will meet his Pakistani counterpart, according to a press release issued by the Foreign Office.
As Pakistan keeps its eye on a billion-dollar foreign investment, the two sides would engage in a wide-ranging discussion on bilateral and multilateral corporations.
Several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed between the two countries during the visit.
“The visit of the Azeri President reflects the robust cooperation and leadership-level dialogue between the two countries,” said FO.
