Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has strongly opposed the federal government’s proposed new canal project, terming it "controversial" and warning that the PPP would not support the ruling coalition if the plan is not immediately withdrawn.
Addressing a public rally in Hyderabad, Bilawal said the issue of water distribution could pose a serious threat to national unity, accusing the federal authorities of being “blind and deaf” to provincial concerns.
“We reject the canal project in its entirety,” he said. “We will not compromise on the River Indus.”
The PPP chairman added that he is backed by the people, not by Form-47, referencing alleged electoral rigging. He criticized the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), calling its projects “anti-farmer” and accusing the party of exploiting rural communities.
Commenting on the recent by-election victory in Umerkot, Bilawal congratulated PPP workers and thanked the public for rejecting what he called a unified front of opposition parties, including PTI and PML-N.
He announced that PPP would hold a major protest and rally in Sukkur on April 25, vowing to defend the rights of Sindh’s people and farmers.
