Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Monday night met Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, who is currently on a three-day official visit to Pakistan.
In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the two sides discussed on "matters of mutual interest, including regional peace, stability, and border security".
"Both sides concurred on the necessity to bolster bilateral cooperation while jointly striving for regional stability and economic prosperity," the military's media wing said.
During the meeting, the army chief described the Pak-Iran border as "the border of peace and friendship," emphasising the need for improved coordination along the border to prevent terrorists from jeopardizing the longstanding brotherly relations between the two neighbouring countries.
"By fostering cooperation between the two Armed Forces, Pakistan and Iran can attain peace and stability for both nations and the region," ISPR said quoting Raisi.
A day earlier, Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi reached Islamabad on a three-day official visit to Pakistan.
When he arrived at the PM House, Raisi was given a guard of honour by smartly-turned out personnel of the armed forces.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly welcomed the Iranian President upon his arrival at the PM House.
Afterwards, the national anthems of both countries were played and the country heads shook hands with other dignitaries.
President Raisi was accompanied by his spouse and a high-level delegation, comprising the foreign minister and other members of the cabinet, seniour officials and a large business delegation.
