Dr Aafia Siddiqui's American lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, has made disturbing revelations about her treatment in prison saying that she has been subjected to sexual assault and a prison guard raped her two weeks ago as punishment.
Clive Stafford and Dr Fowzia met with Dr Aafia via phone through a glass wall inside the jail last week on Thursday and Friday.
While sharing the details of the meeting, Clive Stafford mentioned that the phones were not working properly, forcing them to shout to hear each other clearly.
He lodged a complaint with the jail authorities, who then provided a new phone two days later.
When Dr Fowzia, met with her sister on Sunday, she was crying profusely. However, when jail authorities took Fowzia away, they forgot to move Dr Aafia and left her in a locked room for one-and-a-half hours, he added.
Mr Clive said that progress is being made on Dr Aafia's case and expressed optimism for her release.
The American attorney also mentioned upcoming meetings in Washington, though he did not disclose details regarding those he will be meeting with at the White House.
A New York federal district court indicted Pakistani neuroscientist, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, in September 2008.
In 2010, she was found guilty of attempted murder and assault by the probe body and sentenced to 86 years in prison.
She was accused of alleged attempted murder and assault on US officials during an interrogation in Ghazni, Afghanistan. However, she denied these allegations.
