Former Sindh MPA Ghulam Rasool Unar has approached a sessions court in Karachi seeking registration of a case against a woman, alleging that she used artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images to deceive him into marriage and later blackmailed and threatened him.
According to the petition filed before an Additional District and Sessions Judge, Unar began communicating with the woman on social media and married her through a video call on February 23 without ever seeing her real face.
His lawyer said the woman would send AI-generated images of an attractive woman whenever Unar asked her to show her face. Even on the day of the marriage, she allegedly appeared on the video call wearing a veil and did not show her face.
The lawyer said that after the marriage, Unar met the woman in person and found that she looked completely different from the images she had shared. He subsequently distanced himself from her and formally divorced her on August 2.
The lawyer alleged that before and after the divorce, the woman circulated fake and manipulated images and social media posts claiming that Unar had died.
According to the petitioner's lawyer, a complaint has also been filed with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) regarding the alleged cybercrime.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge issued notices to the SP Complaint Cell and SHO Defence, directing the police to submit a detailed report by August 17.
