Karachi has been gripped with heatwave-like conditions for the past three days with the temperature soaring to 48 degrees Celsius.

However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a respite from the scorching temperatures for the people of Sindh, including Karachi, and Punjab.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz said that Punjab and Sindh are likely to witness a decline in temperature and intensity of hot weather starting from the weekend.

“On Friday and Saturday, the mercury anticipated to go up to 39 to 40 degrees Celsius in Karachi, and from June 2, it would start declining,” he said while talking to a private news channel.

According to Sarfaraz, the temperature is likely to drop by 4-5 degrees to 34-35 degrees Celsius after Sunday in the metropolis.

“Suspended sea breeze in metropolitan would also start blowing, while the weather would become cloudy,” he noted.

As per Sarfaraz’s prediction, the scorching heat will decrease further from June 10.

However, the Met Office recorded 40 degrees Celsius maximum temperature in Karachi with a level of 75% humidity in the air today.

Moreover, hot weather will continue to prevail in Punjab, but a slight decline in temperature is also expected.

PMD Chief also predicted rain in northern areas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Malakand, Chitral, Dir, and Gilgit Baltistan after a western system entered the country.

“Lahore, Jhelum, Sialkot, Islamabad and surrounding areas are likely to receive light and moderate pre-monsoon rain and thunderstorms from June 5 to 7,” he said.
