The Pakistan Meteorological Department has rejected viral reports claiming that a “heat burst” could strike parts of Punjab, causing temperatures to rise sharply within minutes.

In a clarification, the Met Office said it had not issued any advisory or warning regarding such an घटना. The circulating claims suggested that temperatures in southern Punjab could surge from around 30°C to as high as 45°C or 50°C within five to 10 minutes, particularly at night.

The viral message also warned of zero humidity, breathing difficulties and potential damage to crops, while referencing phenomena such as El Niño to support its claims.

However, the PMD stated that all its forecasts and alerts are based on verified data and that no such extreme weather event has been predicted. It cautioned that unverified information could create unnecessary panic among the public.

The department advised citizens to rely only on official updates and avoid sharing unconfirmed reports regarding weather conditions.
