Karachi is expected to receive heavy rain with thunderstorms today (August 5), according to the Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD).

The PMD said that the weather would remain cloudy across the city, with the possibility of downpours in parts of Karachi.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz said there are chances of intermittent rain throughout the day and at night in Karachi as "the low atmospheric pressure is near western Sindh".

The met official said that the intensity of the fresh spell is expected to decline by August 6.

He said another monsoon system may shower Sindh from August 11 to 13, while light and moderate rainfall is expected in the metropolis from August 18 to 21.

According to PMD, currently, the humidity level in the air is 92 percent. The temperature is likely to range between 32°C and 35°C today.

Meanwhile, early morning light rain in Karachi disrupted the traffic flow in the megapolis.

Karachi traffic police cautioned drivers and motorcyclists to drive at low speed and avoid sudden brakes as the light downpours left the roads slippery.

On the other hand, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and National Emergency Center (NEC) forecasted rain and thundershowers in Karachi on August 6 may cause urban flooding in the provincial capital.
