Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has said that he will not shift “even an inch” from his position and is prepared either to achieve public freedom or to face martyrdom.
This message was conveyed by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja during a press conference at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad.
Salman Akram Raja said that, according to PTI’s legal team, Imran Khan is currently being kept in solitary confinement.
He added that a new notification has been issued for upcoming trials under which even family members will not be allowed inside the courtroom. He said judges will hear the cases through video links from remote locations.
He stated that existing court orders clearly say Imran Khan has the right to a fair and open trial. However, he claimed that Imran Khan’s scheduled meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays have been stopped.
The PTI leader said government spokespersons have claimed that Imran Khan is being allowed meetings, calling these claims “completely false.” He said Imran Khan believes the public will now have to stand up for their rights themselves.
Salman Akram Raja further said that Imran Khan has stated all doors of justice have been shut, his cases are not being heard, and access to the judiciary has effectively ended.
According to him, Imran Khan’s message is that people should come out onto the streets and raise their voices.
He said Imran Khan believes there is no option left except protest and has urged citizens to struggle for their rights. He also said Imran Khan expressed solidarity with all prisoners, particularly women.
Salman Akram Raja said PTI will not retreat from its demands.
He added that Imran Khan briefly met his lawyer, Salman Safdar, earlier today. He said that when a verdict was announced, neither Imran Khan nor his legal team was present in court.
