Maryam Wattoo says Imran Khan thanked her for introducing him to Bushra Bibi

Former first lady Bushra Bibi’s elder sister, Maryam Riaz Wattoo revealed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan expressed special thanks to her for introducing Bushra Bibi to him.

The former first lady, who is currently serving jail time alongside her spouse Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case, married Imran Khan in 2018.

Their marriage has remained controversial over the years, particularly after her ex-husband, Manika Khawar, initiated a legal battle against the couple and submitted a petition to the court seeking the annulment of their marriage.

However, the case was dismissed after the Islamabad High Court ruled the nikkah legal and dismissed Khawar’s petition.

Manika Khawar claimed that Bushra Bibi was the spiritual guide of Imran Khan, a fact acknowledged by Mrs Wattoo in her recent interview.

“I introduced Bushra Bibi to Imran Khan in 2014 or 2015, but I had no idea that they would eventually marry,” she said.

"Bushra possesses extensive knowledge of the Holy Quran and religious matters, which is one reason Imran Khan listens to her advice; he refers to her as his mentor," Mrs Wattoo stated.

During the interview, she addressed the allegations of black magic and witchcraft, saying, “I have doubts about the mental health of those who make such allegations against Bushra.”

When asked about Imran Khan's private life, Maryam Wattoo declined to go into detail, stating that she did not know him very well before he became her brother-in-law.

Recalling the initial introduction between Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, she mentioned that Imran had been quite upset at the time, which prompted her to arrange their meeting.

Mrs Wattooo shared that following his wedding, Imran Khan thanked her via email for introducing him to Bushra Bibi, writing, “Thank you, you have changed my life.”
