The number of dead bodies brought to Edhi Foundation morgues in Karachi has increased in the past week, likely due to the ongoing heatwave and a rise in the number of heatstroke victims.

The head of the Edhi Foundation, Faisal Edhi, told a local news channel that 300 bodies were brought to the city's three morgues over the past three days.

The Edhi Foundation has three cold rooms located at Sohrab Goth, Korangi, and Meethadar.

He added that in the past five days, 423 bodies were brought to the foundation for bathing and funeral preparations.

Faisal Edhi further stated that the number of deaths has doubled recently compared to normal days. Most of the bodies were brought in by families and there were fewer unidentified bodies.

Karachi is grappling with an intense heatwave. Official statistics revealed that on Monday, there were four heat-related deaths in the city.

According to the hospital administration, ten people suffering from heatstroke were brought to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMS) from four districts.

The administration of Civil Hospital Karachi said that eight patients died in the health facility today (Tuesday) due to extreme heat.

Civil Hospital's emergency room treated 40-45 patients suffering from heat-related illness today. Severely dehydrated patients were among those who died.

Some of the patients who died had underlying health conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

As per Rescue sources, the bodies of seven drug addicts were discovered in various areas of the city today. This brings the total number of such deaths in Karachi to 17 in the past two days.

Karachi is predicted to experience a heatwave for the next two days. The city endured scorching temperatures that felt much higher than the recorded 42 degrees.
