Karachi to receive light to moderate rain today

The Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD) predicted light to moderate rain coupled with thunderstorms in Karachi on Saturday.

In an advisory, the met office stated that Karachi, Sukkar, Khairpur, Larkana, Dadu, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Mirpur Khas, and other districts of Sindh are expected to receive heavy and moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds.

However, despite the rain forecast, the hot and humid weather would prevail in the port city. 

According to the weather department, the temperature is likely to go up to 39°C in the daytime with 79% humidity.

Weather analyst Jawad Memon said the feels-like temperature is expected to remain between 45°C and 53°C in the metropolis.

“Thunder cells would begin to generate a little far from the city in the daytime and under the influence of the system, the outskirt areas, including DHA city, Gadap, Taiser Town, Surjani, Scheme 33, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and other parts of the central and upper districts of the city are expected to receive downpours,” he said in a post. 

“There are 40-50 percent chances of rain in the said areas,” Memon added.

A day earlier, the northern and central parts of Karachi were lashed with rain while southern areas remained dry.
