Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed a contempt of court petition against the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore after he submitted the official permission letter allowing the Aurat March to take place.

During the hearing, the government’s counsel presented a letter detailing security arrangements for the march, confirming that the event will be held on February 12 with foolproof security measures in place.

Justice Anwaar Hussain presided over the case, hearing petitions filed by Lina Ghani and others.

The DC Lahore informed the court that consultations and meetings regarding security were ongoing due to other events in the city, including a cricket match and the Horse & Cattle Show on February 8.

The court questioned when the Aurat March application was received, to which the DC Lahore responded that it was submitted on January 29.

The court further inquired whether the law specified a timeframe for deciding such applications, to which the DC Lahore stated that no such duration is mentioned in the law.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the delay, the court warned that the Chief Secretary could be summoned if the matter remained unresolved.

However, after the march received official approval, the court disposed of the petition.
