Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were shaken by an earthquake on Friday morning, causing panic among residents.

According to details, tremors were felt in Islamabad and some regions of KP, prompting people to rush out of their homes and offices in panic.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale.

The PMD said that the quake occurred at 10:39am with a depth of 12 kilometres. Its epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Tremors were also felt in Chitral and Dir.

Earlier, in October, earthquake tremors were reported in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Chitral, Swat and Peshawar, as well as several other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tremors was also felt in and around Peshawar, Gilgit and Abbottabad, and in the surrounding areas of Swat and Malakand.
