Pakistani girls’ education activist and youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has brought attention to the dire situation faced by children in Gaza, where over 625,000 are unable to attend school and lack access to formal education.
In an Instagram post, Malala shared statistics, which highlighted the devastating impact of the one-sided war by Israel on young lives.
"Currently, more than 625,000 children in Gaza are unable to attend school, with no access to formal education. Living under constant threat of bombardment takes a devastating toll on children's physical and mental well-being, particularly when they don't have access to proper care," she wrote.
Malala also shared updates on the work of the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF), which has received support from the Malala Fund.
"In October last year, alongside our call for a ceasefire, @malalafund supported Palestine Children's Relief Fund @thepcrf's incredible work, providing medical and humanitarian relief to children and their families," she explained.
The PCRF's initiatives include the Gaza Amputee Project, which provides prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation, Medical and Orphan Sponsorships, which offer critical treatments and social support, and the Gaza Pediatric Mental Health Initiative, which helps children overcome trauma.
The organisation also evacuates children for lifesaving medical treatment and brings in doctors to perform transformative procedures at no cost.
She encouraged her followers to learn more about PCRF's work and show support for the humanitarian workers on the front lines.
The activist reiterated her call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire to end the needless violence in Gaza.
"It is unacceptable that children and families in Gaza are struggling to survive and facing these horrible conditions. Together, we must continue our call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire to end this needless violence and suffering," Malala concluded her post.
Earlier this month, she announced a scholarship program for Palestinian students to study at Oxford University.
