The National Assembly approved the finance bill for the fiscal year 2024-25, a measure heavily laden with taxes that will likely burden the public while simultaneously easing financial concerns for lawmakers.

As part of the budget, the federal government has announced an increase in travel allowances (TA) for members of the National Assembly (MNAs).

The TA for MNAs in the lower house of parliament has been raised from Rs15 to Rs25 per kilometer. Additionally, the number of traveling vouchers allotted to each MNA has been boosted from 25 to 30. Notably, these vouchers will no longer be forfeited if unused; instead, they will roll over into the following year.

Following detailed deliberations, the National Assembly passed the Finance Bill 2024, incorporating specific amendments through a clause-by-clause consideration.

Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb, initiated the motion for the Finance Bill 2024, which aims to implement the federal government's financial proposals for the upcoming fiscal year starting from July 1, 2024.
